Wordle, LibraryThing, WrapUp

These 2 things were by far the easiest. I finally learned last week that it is best (for me) to print off the instructions. However, this time I would have been fine w/out them. Both things were very intuitive so you just needed to follow along on the screen. Surprise surpise -- my Wordle was from the "Love Meow" website. It was fun & easy. I had some printing issues, but I've had the same issues on my computer before, it worked eventually.
LibraryThing was fun & easy, again, I added cat books!
Overall, though I was very frustrated at times w/ 23 Things, it was a huge learning curve for me. Most applications were new to me so I was exposed to a lot of different information. I'm glad I did it, I'm glad I'm done!

Online Mapping & GIS

Surprisingly, I found this very easy. This time I had the sense to use the instructions Gail had printed off, so i wasn't flipping back & forth on the screen, which is where I get confused. I had fun, though I kept it simple w/ just 2 places on my "catwalk". I can see how it may be useful to create a community map if you needed to share directions to a place or various places for friends/colleagues to follow. I have used Google Maps/Google Earth for directions in the past, so this portion was straightforward. It is nice to have a 23 Things activity that I did not struggle w/ or get frustrated doing, as has been the case w/ the last few or so. I found I enjoyed doing the 23 Things again, hooray!

diigo, widgets

Not sure that I want to create a diigo account as it is a social bookmarking tool & I seem to have an aversion to any social networking type things. I did try to take the tour on the diigo website, but the video was scrambled. I have reported the problem to 23 Things & if it can be rectified I will go back & watch the video. I do see how this application could be very useful if you research on the web/use it for various reasons. I did however add a "countdown" widget to my iGoogle page. Much more my style -- so very simple!

Photosharing

As usual, I didn't read/follow the instructions. Therefore I got lost/confused & had to attempt it numerous times before it worked, thanks once again to Rachel & Duane for assisting me. Now I do see how easy it should be. I have viewed Flickr before but never uploaded from it. Not sure that I would use it on a regular basis as I tend to send pictures via e-mail as attachments. For this "thing", I typed "tortie cats" into the Flickr search window & got many results. I had hoped that by now I would be more adept with the 23 things but this does not seem to be the case. I learn best by having someone (in person show) me, then doing it myself -- rather than following along w/ written instructions. I'm just glad that I was eventually able to post a Flickr picture on my blog!

Wiki

I think I posted to the 23 Things Wiki correctly, but I'm not certain. Hope I did it right, as I found it rather easy! Now when I go into my blog, there is a blue circle w/ the letter "i" in it @ the top of my blog page. Does anyone know why this would happen? Anyway, I had fun using Wiki.

YouTube Video

I am glad we only had to find a video to add to our blog & not actually create/upload a new one unless we wanted to. I would not have felt comfortable doing so. Happily I found a video of a kitten using the library as a research tool in order to successfully land a job. I found this task rather easy & enjoyable (which surprises me as I generally struggle with these technologies).

Prezi

So I finally put together a Prezi, after much frustration. I often got lost in navigating around my Prezi page & trying to edit it/create paths etc. Though I did watch the instructional video & go through the tutorial slideshow, I still managed to totally confuse myself once I started on the page itself. Once again -- one of my fellow podmates (thank you Rachel!) came to my rescue. Once she got me back on track & I was able to create a path & actually "show" my Prezi, it kind of came together & made sense to me. I can see how it would be a valuable tool for presentations. I just think that you would have to feel comfortable with it in order to use it to its best advantage. Participating in 23 Things is making it abundantly clear to me that I do struggle with most web 2.0 applications. I'm glad I'm done the Prezi!

Google Docs/Google Spreadsheet

I just used Google Docs/Spreadsheet for the first time. Thank you Alison for helping me with Google Docs. I of course got lost again flipping back & forth between the instructions & the document page itself. I don't know that I would ever use this application, but Candice had explained to me how convenient it is for people separated geographically who are sharing/editing the same document. I can see how this tool would be useful. The spreadsheet was fun & easy. I just have to try to remember to update it weekly! I must admit that both of these "things" sounded really boring before I actually did them, but I really enjoyed it.

RSS Feeds

This morning I subscribed to RSS feeds. As I am not techno-savvy & had to keep flipping between the instructions & various windows/tabs -- I got lost a few times. But, thanks to Duane's assistance, I managed to complete the tasks. If I were to use my iGoogle page on a regularlar basis, I can see how RSS feeds would be useful & timesaving.

Picture of my cat

I am so happy, Gail H. just taught me how to post a pic of my kitty on my blog!

Thing 3

I have now completed Thing 3 of the 23 things -- registering my blog.

Iffat's First Blog

This is my very 1st blog. I have completed Thing 1, Week 1 & am now working on Thing 2, Week 2, which is blogging! I chose to participate in 23 Things to become more familiar with web applications such as this one.
